My writing is based on my experience as an instructional designer, project manager, online instructor, and career coach.

Experience and Interests

While I do have a terminal degree, my career has not been that of the traditional academic. My path includes work in a wide variety of settings ranging from nonprofits to military contractors. I am an instructional designer with experience in industry and higher education (public, private, and for-profit). My background includes working in student services as a career counselor, academic advisor, and instructor for first-year students. I received my doctorate in 2007, in curriculum and instruction – instructional technology, focusing on the online delivery of career services. I also hold graduate degrees in administration and instructional psychology, and am a certified career coach.

I am currently an Online Education Advisor for providing resources and reviews for online students and instructors, as well as conducting original research and moderating a weekly Twitter chat: #LetsTalkCollege (formerly #IOLchat). You can find more of my writing at

I’m also an active member of the Beaufort Digital Corridor, networking with local leaders to develop tech-based resources and work opportunities my local community.

My previous employers include: the Distance Course Design and Consulting (DCDC) Group at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Kaplan Higher Education, KnowledgeTech, Inc., Saint Leo University, the University of South Florida, and Syracuse University.
